The Lottery

As we come back from the Thanksgiving weekend, The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, is our reading today. Handed out are paper copies, below is the text being read. Thanksgiving is a tradition celebrated on this Continent. We have many traditions, as do other countries. Read about a particular tradition in this story, The Lottery.

Re-read the story.

1-Foreshadowing are hints that the author leaves to what the ending will be. This is important, otherwise the ending would be random. What hints does the author leave about what the ending will be. Include one character name in the hints.

2=The ending is also a bit of a surprise. What evidence is there that this is a normal, happy community gathering? Give multiple pieces of evidence, and again, include a character's name.

3-What point of view is given by Old Man Warner.

4-What conflicting point of view to Warner is given by the Adams? Anything to their name Adam?
