Find a book or song that is hiding an example of personification.  Blog blow the title of your book or song and give us the personification that is found in your sweet song or friendly book.

Now for the good copy. This may be done on paper or on the computer. It will be a graphic story. Comic Life is on the computer. Graphics may be done by hand, by the computer, by camera, or some combination of all 3. 

1. The graphic story must be between 5 and 8 pages

2. The graphic story must have between 30 and 40 panels

3. You must flesh out your story plan into an engaging story for grade 3 students at Athlone

4. Keep an eye on your mechanics; remember that your graphics are a big part of the book's attraction.

As promised, a little lesson in who & whom.

Try substituting “he” or “she” and “him” or “her.” If “he” or “she” fits, you should use who. If “him” or “her” fits, you should use whom. Keep in mind that you may have to temporarily rearrange the sentence a bit while you test it, or answer the question the sentence is posing.

With your rough planning sheet, handed out by the teacher, a similiar copy available here, make a rough plan for your story.

MLK Day

Today in the United States they celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Fifty years ago this March King was involved in a march in Selma to bring attention to voter rights, which was a movie playing in local theatres. One of the participants, John, Lewis, who had his skull crushed, was recently accused by Trump as being all talk, no action.

Reflections  of the march from Mrs Robinson, who was left for dead. The advice of the police was to leave the bodies “for the buzzards to eat.” 

 Above is a song about the event, you might have heard the song. Did you know what the song was about?  Why would the state troopers' treatment of Mrs Robinson eventually advance the cause of voter rights?

Persuasive Writing Assignment: Advocate for a change. Use at least 10 sentences. Near the beginning  have an easily identified thesis statement. The use of facts and quotations will help your argument. End with a strong statement.

Writing

Oral history is often not given the respect it deserves in our culture that values things being written down. Here is an example. Still, being able to communicate by writing can be a big advantage, especially if you can't meet in person.  Writing first happened in the Fertile Crescent, about 3400 BCE, soon after farming became a lifestyle. A big push to start writing was that it was a good way to keep track of taxes. Egypt had writing soon afterwards, about 3100 BCE.  It was awhile before an actual alphabet was used. People drew pictures or symbols to convey their message. We still do today, such as with emoticons.


In your groups, and without using any alphabetical figures, communicate the following message on your sheet of paper.


Zuri is selling high quality grain, good for bread, for 10 chickens. 
Liam is selling lower quality grain, good for animal feed, for 5 chickens.

Irony

Irony: a situation in which something which was intended to have a particular result has the opposite or a very different result: 

The irony (of it) is that the new tax system will burden those it was intended to help.

a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

General Zaroff is so concerned about following rules and proper manners, but he spends his time killing humans. 

Someone who had trouble defining irony, unless she purposefully sang a song about irony which had no irony, which would be very ironic, is the Canadian Alanis Morissette. 

In your groups, take 5 non-ironic situations in the song above, and make them actually ironic.
Example-In the song it says a traffic jam when you are already late is ironic (it isn't). What would be ironic is having a traffic jam everyday you try and get to school on time and then the one day you wouldn't mind being late, having no traffic jam.
