To Build a Fire, by Jack London

Foreshadowing-A warning of what is going to happen

Jack London had outdoor adventures trying, unsuccessfully, to become rich.  From his experiences, he wrote many famous stories about adventures in the North and in the South Pacific. He would become very rich and famous from his writing.
When he started writing, he could only afford a typewriter that had to be pounded with a hammer, one letter at time, to write his stories. Imagine how that would affect his writing style.
