More people participate in Earth Day than any other secular (religious) day in the World
Today-Earth Day, corrections on Middle Ages, and a Kahoot
Tomorrow-St. George's Day, corrections on poem(or do you want more time for that?)
Friday-Journal and Kahoot
You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make. -- Jane Goodall
1 Mark -Who rivalled the King for Power. I was looking for the answer of the Pope, since the Pope and Kings were in a constant struggle at the start of the Middle Ages for power. I also took the answer of a Lord, since people under the King would sometimes try and usurp the King.
2 Marks-What facts did you find to be most appealing/disgusting
A poor farmer of low social status who owns or rents a small piece of land for cultivation.
Peasants are poor farmers that worked for the land of knights and nobles while getting protection.
A poor laborer of low social status, who works on a person of higher nobility's land, who in return gives them shelter, food and protection for as long as they work.
1 Mark-Explain Serf
serfs were like peasants that were sold with land.
Serfs would be laborers who would work on and pay rent for nobles or knight's land, who in return would give them home, food and protection for as long as they worked. Also the word serfs come from the word " slave" in Latin.
1 Mark-Explain Lord/Noble
Nobles/Lords were people who would be given land or "fife" by the king, and in return they would give him their loyalty and some soldiers and horses for his army. the Lords could also give some of their land they got from the king to knights, who would in return would fight for the nobles and occasionally, the king.
lords would own the land that peasants farmed on
Level of power below king, supplied king with soldiers and horses for his army.
1 Mark-Explain tithe
One tenth of annual produce or earnings, formerly taken as a tax for the support of the Church and clergy.
A tithe is a tenth of what a farmer would earn annually in the middle ages, taken as a tax to support the church.
2 Marks-Differences/similarities between the Middle Ages and now
In the middle ages they almohad to pay "taxes" just like we do today. Also at that time the church was a big part of everything and ruled a lot while now the church is not the leader of everything of and we don't have to do anything for the church unlike those days.
One similarity I find is we have to pay taxes for our house and necessities. We have clean water when then they didn't have any to the point where you could only drink alcohol. We can choose different jobs when they only knew how to do one job, the job that they helped their parents with. We don't have to marry at age 12-14 like they did. They didn't bathe, while we do.
We still have different levels of power ex. mayor, prime minister. Lots of people get an education today (although there are still places where it is uncommon).

This year's official video
Our present situation and some suggestions going forward
1. Blog below your thoughts on two things. Do you think that after the pandemic is over, people will change their behaviour in ways that will be beneficial to the Earth? Are you changing your behaviour to be better to the Earth?
Corrections from Monday's Middle Ages questions. Some excellent answers and I have included some of the as examples.
5 Marks-5 things you found interesting
Some of the answers were
They invented Greek fire.
-schools were founded in monasteries
-king owned all the land in the country
-crossbow was founded at that time
- a lot of things were founded then and our world has improved those inventions now but kept them to the same purpose.
1. People and even children would drink wine or ale because the water was very contaminated.
2.Serfs had to pay tax to the owner for letting them work on his land.
3.They almost never washed.
4. The church had to build special barns for holding in the tithe they got from people.
5. Most people weren't even slightly educated and knew only how to work.
Islamic people made the concept 0 and the numbers. the east were the ones who made university, Christians invented the windmill, all their houses had pointy roofs, saints had a gold ring painted around their head in paintings
1.people paid tax in the early middle ages
2.if people had animals they kept them in the house
3,rich people only had a couple baths every year
4. doctors would 'bleed' people by putting leeches on them
5.boys married at 14 and girls married at 12
2. they used some of the same medical techniques as people in ancient Greece
3. if a peasant was to kill an animal on their lords land they could be sentenced to death
4. peasants children usually only lived up to about 6 months old
The bread was gritty from the millstones and let to peoples teeth wearing down quickly. Sometimes doctors would bleed a patient by sticking a leech to their skin. Peasants had to pay a tax of 10% of what they farmed that year to the church. Peasants weren't allowed to hunt on the lords land, killing a deer would sometimes result in death.

cows live in homes
I like that everyone was competing to find new stuff and be the smarter country unlike now the world is competing for some dumb things. I dislike that if you were poor or a peasant you had to be in such inequality and do a bunch of stuff fr other people and barely get anything for it.
I find it to be disgusting that it was rarity for people even of high nobility to wash. Also I find it a bit funny and sad that people were so poor they would steal someone else's clothes while they would be in one of the "stews" washing.
the black plague i find appealing and disgusting, its interesting but disgusting what it did
people did not bathe and the rich only took baths a couple time a year
Peasants would plaster the frame of their house with a mixture of mud, straw, and manure. Peasants wore plain clothing mode out of heavy wool to keep them warm.

I think people will change their behaviour a bit that will help the Earth. I think after this pandemic is over, we will see more people working from home, lessening transportation pollution. I don't know if this change will be motivated by saving the Earth as much as employers saving costs on providing an office. As for my behaviour, while I have already cancelled 2 trips to Europe because of the Pandemic, I don't know if I will travel less after this is all over. I do think I will alter my diet to include less beef and dairy and I am thinking that some of my clothes I don't have to wash as often. I am also looking at buying less packaged goods. Bulk barn will allow people to provide their own glass containers so I think I will start doing that for a lot of my groceries.
ReplyDeletei think it will start of beneficial but then slowly decline. i think this because when we are finally able to leave home, not much people will want to because most likely we wont have a vaccine yet, but then requirement at jobs will start to increase and people will be forced to leave home, and that will cause us to litter, it will pollute due to businesses opening and we will use more gas since we have so much of it due o the whole Iran thing a while back. Then there will be a vaccine and no one will be scared anymore and pretty much making people leave forcing oil prices to jump again. we will benefit at the start and slowly start to decrease over the years, bu in the end we will be a little better no because we will have learned a very important lessen.
ReplyDeleteI think most people will just go back to their normal routine because it's what they're used to and us humans can be quite stubborn sometimes.
ReplyDeletei think people will be more cautious when it come to hygiene, people will wash there hands more and cough into their elbows more often and people will start being more involved in helping the earth.
ReplyDeletewhen my family goes grocery we use reusable bags instead of plastic bags.
I don’t think people will change their behaviour to be more beneficial to earth due to the fact that when they will open beaches and campsites, people will go rushing in, which will cause garbage left on the shores and campsites. Im only suggesting that because when they opened a beach in US, people rushed in to the beach, and then left leaving garbage all over.
ReplyDeleteI think people will change their ways on how they do things because of being scared that this could happen again because of somebodys stupid decisions.
ReplyDeleteI think that after the pandemic is over people will and will not change their behaviour to the Earth. I think that at first people will get exited that this is over, will go to public places, trash them and leave. Then after a while when all this goes back to normal and it's not a crazy thought going to the beach with you family, then people will start caring and will start doing something to change. It can also be the other way around that people will change when quarantine is over because of all the commercials on TV, but then in a couple of months, forget about it all and go back to trashing the earth. Our family have started to try to change our behaviour to Earth for about 9 years now and have been improving since then by bring own reusable bags at the store, have reusable cups for Mac Donald'd and Starbuck and they fill them up and planning to buy an electric car.
ReplyDeleteI think that most people will want to and will go back to their daily lives cause they are tired of this pandemic and having to follow all of these rules. But I also think that some people will be more cautious when it comes to going out in public and making sure your washing your hands good and just being aware of your surroundings.
