The Fall of Rome

Many of you mentioned wanting to study the Middle Ages, which happened after the Fall of Rome.

Rome didn't fall in a day, and there were many factors for Rome falling. Last month we went over disease and climate change as two such factors. https://rm10lass.blogspot.com/2020/03/disease-and-climate-change.html

Other Factors for the Fall of Rome
Size-As Rome became bigger, the logistics of ruling the territory became more difficult. To try and solve this, Rome was split in Western Rome and Eastern Rome.

Taxes-People started to pay more and more taxes for things like the military, and not feeling that they were getting full value for being Roman citizens.

Loyalty-Related to above. As Rome took over more and more territory,  the newly acquired people didn't feel a strong affinity for the Roman conquers and were not enthusiastic participants in paying taxes, fighting for the Roman military and other duties.

Invasions-As Rome expanded, they brushed up against a larger area, so had more territory to defend and more people to defend against.

Poor Leadership-Questionable and corrupt leaders didn't help solve the problems, and creatd a few of their own.

Below is a short video clip about the Fall of Rome. A mercenary is a soldier with no loyalty to a country, they fight for whoever pays them.
